8:15AM...Saturday morning...
I've been feeling slightly fluish the last day...it hasn't bloomed out yet though...it kinda comes and goes in waves...and, yesterday when I got back home from work, I was really tired (propably from the flu-thingy)...so, I went to bed at 9AM...and slept tight (no interruptions) til right about 6PM...then I woke up, but, I thought I was just gonna chill for a minute or two before finally getting up...well, I chilled for almost about another 2 hours and got up...it was 7:40PM at this point...and only 3 more hours to go til work...now, that sucks...cuz, all of the day is gone...but, the good thing was that I felt kinda rested and better as well...so...
Listening to Elliott Smith right now...Figure 8...I just listened to his debut album a few moments ago...and, I have to say (hearing the album for the second time) that it's a pretty strong debut album after all (I didn't get it the first time, but I did now)...Almost close to every song on that album is rock solid "hits"...well, they are no dull moments on the album...since, you go "Oh shit ,this one's really good" most of the time...
My first fave album of Elliott was on the other hand the one I'mgoing through now...Figure 8, but, after hearing both the debut album as well as Either Or (again)...I'm having second thoughts of reorganizing my top albums for Elliott...
Elliott Smith
Either Or
Figure 8
(I have to listen more to the other ones before I can make up my final mind on those ones)
Maybe it's just so that Figure 8 is a more "easier to get" album than the earlier ones...(since there's more orchestration and band arrangements in the latter ones)...the early ones are basically just Elliott and an acoustic guitar and maybe some simple overdubs of 2-3 other instruments...along with his quiet voice along the tracks...which makes the songs more naked and propably much more difficult to "jam out" too...and, therefore also are the ones that really tells the story of Elliott and his complex world...
The double-CD New Moon, that came out earlier this year, is a very naked album as well...very acoustic with a few "jam out" arrangements...and this one goes right there with Elliotts earliest outputs...and, most of these songs should've been released during Elliotts living years...cuz, there's some really deep heavy shit on this one as well...
I'll get back to Mr. Elliott Smith on a later rant...he's a very intresting character that I should've paid more attention to when he was around...I just couldn't get the context of his work back then...but, I never dissed him or his work...I just told myself that "one day I'll get it"...and I guess you're witnessing those moments as we speak...(just look previous rants and onward)...
Maybe I'll just cut this one right here and get back laters...
Yeah...
